MINDBODY no longer supports Windows XP. The following instructions were last updated as of April 8, 2014, when Microsoft announced they will no longer support the XP operating system. 

 

USB 2.0 Hardware Required

If your computer is more than six years old, then check your USB port compatibility to verify that it is 2.0. Enhanced 2.0 USB ports were standardized on most new machines in 2001.

  1. Right-click on your My Computer icon.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager.
  4. Scroll to the bottom until you see the section titled Universal Serial Bus Controller.
  5. Click on the + to the left of the name and look down the Universal Serial Bus controllers list for the description "USB 2.0" or "Enhanced."
  6. If you do not see any variation containing the word "Enhanced," you do not have USB 2.0 on your PC. You will need to purchase and install a USB 2.0 card into your PC. Most electronics stores sell the hardware you need to install a USB 2.0 card.

Installation Instructions

Part 1: Connecting your printer to your PC

Note: It is recommended to install your driver (Part 4) before connecting your printer to your PC.

  1. Locate the printer's power cord. It can be found in a small white box with the Star Micronics logo on it.
  2. Locate the USB cable that connects the receipt printer to the PC. It will be in a plastic bag with the Tripp Lite logo on it.
  3. Plug the power cord to the back of the printer and a power source.
  4. Insert the square end of the USB cable in to the printer.
  5. Insert the rectangular, slimmer end of the USB cord in to your PC.
  6. Do not turn on the printer.

Part 2: Load the paper

One starter roll of 80-mm (3⅛-in) thermal receipt paper is included with your printer. When the paper runs low, your printer's red error light will begin to flash. 

Thermal receipt paper can be purchased at most office supply stores and online.

To load more paper:

Press the open lever on the cover of the printer.

  1. If the lower button is not depressed by the paper roll, the error light will flash. Gently push the roll into place until it is touching the lower black button.
  2. Be careful! The paper gauges are fragile. If they become detached, you will need to take apart the printer in order to reattach the gauges.
  3. Pull the loose end of the paper until it is extended several inches past the front end of the printer. The paper feed should come from underneath the roll as shown below.
  4. While keeping the paper roll in the printer, gently pull the feed out of the printer as shown below.
  5. Do not try to feed the paper through the front rollers on the cover. The correct way to load the paper is to make sure the paper comes out from underneath the roll, as if you were loading a roll of toilet paper under instead of over. Pull the paper feed out of the printer.
  6. With the paper feed hanging out the front of the printer, close the cover by pushing it down onto the paper until it clicks.
  7. Turn the printer on.

Part 3: Run a feed test

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold down the Feed button on the front of the printer.
  3. With the Feed button held down, turn the printer on.
  4. Release the Feed button as the printer begins printing a receipt with its settings.

Part 4: Download the Star Micronics easy driver selection tool

  1. Click here to download the zip file that contains the drivers to your PC.
  2. Select the printer specifications, and click on the recommended driver link for your computer.
  3. Save the driver to your computer's desktop.

Part 5: Extract the driver

  1. Go to your computer's desktop.
  2. Double-click on the file rasterdrv_2k-xp_20050328.exe
  3. Click Run.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Change the model to: Star TSP643 Raster Printer.  
  6. Click the button that says, "Extract files for installation via Windows Add Printer Wizard."
  7. Click No. You DO NOT want to install the Status Monitor.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Exit.

Part 6: Install the printer using Windows Hardware Wizard

  1. Turn off your receipt printer.
  2. Make sure that a USB cable is connecting the receipt printer to the PC.
  3. Make sure that your PC is powered on.
  4. Turn on your receipt printer.
  5. When the Add Hardware Wizard appears, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)." Click Next.
  6. Click "Include this location in your search." Click Next.
  7. Click the Browse button and follow this menu path: Desktop > Star > StarRas and then click OK.
  8. Select the "Star TSP643 Raster Printer." Do not select "Star TSP643 Raster Printer with Status Monitor." Click Next.
  9. When the Hardware Installation warning appears, click "Continue Anyway."
  10. Click Finish.

Part 7: Change the printer settings

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Select Settings > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Right-click on the "Star TSP643 Raster Printer" and choose "Properties."
  4. In the Ports tab, make sure that "Enable bidirectional support" is unchecked.
  5. In the Advanced tab, select "Print directly to the printer."
  6. In the Device Settings tab, make sure "72mm x Receipt" is selected for paper type.
  7. In the Print Options tab, in the Cut Action section, EndPage/End Doc should be set to Partial Cut/Partial Cut. If you have a cash drawer, in the cash drawer section, for Drawer 1, select Document Top for Action/Timing dropdown. Click Apply and OK.
  8. In the General tab, click the Printing Preferences button. Then click the Advanced button in the Star Raster Printer Advanced Options window.
  9. In the drop down for Paper Size, select "72mm x Receipt" then click OK. Click OK again to close Star Printing Preferences window.
  10. Print a test page from the General tab by clicking the Print Test Page button. The printer will print out default settings.

Part 8: Change the browser settings

Open your Internet Explorer browser window.

  1. Click on Tools at the top right to expand the Tools menu. Ensure that Pop-up Blocker is disabled by clicking on Pop-up Blocker. If it is enabled, then click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.
  2. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the printer icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Choose "Page Setup."
  3. Change the Left, Right, Top, and Bottom margins to "0.2."
  4. Make sure that there aren't any characters in the header and footer fields.
  5. Click OK.

Open your Mozilla Firefox browser window.

  1. Click on Tools at the top left to expand the Tools menu. Select "Options" from the menu.
  2. At the top of the Options box click the Content icon.
  3. Un-check the option "Block pop-up windows."
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click on File at the top left and select "Page Setup" from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click on the "Margins & Header/Footer" tab.
  7. Change the Left, Right, Top, and Bottom margins to "0.2."
  8. Make sure that there aren't any characters in the header and footer fields.
  9. Click OK.

Part 9: Print a test receipt

  1. Go to your MINDBODY site.
  2. Make a sale and click Save Print Receipt.
  3. Depending on your General Setup & Options settings, a Print dialogue box may open as well. If it does not, select File > Print from the receipt preview window.
  4. Click Print.
  5. Remember to void the sale once you finish testing.
